Spring skiing is so much fun!
Today the weather was really fantastic in the Netherlands. Terraces were filled and the sun was shining. Truly one of those days when you really feel like spring and summer, and actually don’t want to worry about winter anymore. However, this month is the best month to go on winter sports! Why exactly? Well, here’s why!
1. Skiing in the sun
If you go on winter sports in March or April, the chance that you will be treated to a sparkling sun is so much greater than in January, for example. Of course you have to be a bit lucky, but at the end of the winter sports season it is much more often nice and sunny weather than at the beginning of the season. And skiing in the sun is so much more fun than skiing with thick clouds! You see a lot more on the slopes and it is wonderful to enjoy every morning or afternoon in a sun lounger in the sun.
When it’s really cold, skiing is also a lot of fun because you have to stop because you have to warm up, that also has its charm, especially when it’s in such a remote, tiny mountain hut. But drinking a coke in one of those nice loungers in the sun and letting your face tan for a while, that’s also very nice. In addition, the sun is higher in the sky – after all, it is already March – and that means that it is also longer light. Skiing in March only has advantages when it comes to the weather!
2. Are you still experiencing a real winter
You cannot say that we have had winter in the Netherlands this year. I have not seen children building snowmen out on the street, nor have fathers seen taking children to school on sleds. My skates are still in the attic, they’ve been there for quite a while. Those winter tires under my car were in any case superfluous on the Dutch highways and I may have had to scratch in the morning three times this year. But winter is so much fun, snow is so much fun, although that winter was nowhere to be seen in the Netherlands. At about 1,000 kilometers from here you will find that, a real winter with so much snow. I can’t think of many reasons why you wouldn’t!
3. Lots of snow
Because it is the end of the winter sports season, you may think that there is not much snow left, but nothing could be further from the truth. It took a while for it to snow last season, but once it got loose, it went really well. There is a lot of snow in the Alps and there is still some new, fresh snow every week. Melting isn’t going fast yet, so wherever you go, you’re assured of a very thick layer of snow!
4. Quieter on the slopes
There are plenty of people who don’t need this article at all to know how much fun spring skiing is, so you won’t find completely empty slopes. But… there are no school holidays for children in any European country this month and you will really see that on the slopes. There are simply far fewer families with children, which means that you don’t have to wait as long at the elevators and that you also have to dodge fewer people when you go down.
5. Dutch weekend in Saalbach: March 23-28!
And then the very best reason to go on winter sports now: Dutchweekend in Saalbach is coming! Between 23 and 28 March, the Austrian Saalbach colors a little red, white, blue with orange. Then Dutchweekend lands there and it promises to be one big party. All the above ingredients are present: there is definitely sun, there is a lot of snow in Saalbach and you therefore have the ultimate winter feeling, it is a bit quieter on the slopes than usual and then the organization Dutchweek adds some nice parties up.
To start with, you can of course enjoy great skiing in the Skicircus, a ski area with more than 270 km of slopes. Since this year a connection with the area of Fieberbrunn has been added and as a result the area has become even more fun and challenging. In addition to skiing, you will be treated to lots of fun parties during Dutchweekend. Some start as early as the afternoon and you can have a helicopter taxi take you to one of the party locations on the mountain. Also in the village there is a party every day in several places. You really don’t want to miss such a nice weekend and you don’t have to, because you can book it NOW via Summit Travel!
