Tips for a weekend in Maastricht
Maastricht is one of my favorite cities in the Netherlands. It’s the perfect city for a weekend getaway! You can stroll through the beautiful city, which is bursting with delicious restaurants and if you want to go shopping, Maastricht is the right place. One of the nice things about Maastricht is that it seems as if you are abroad for a while. The atmosphere, the narrow streets, the hilly landscape, you will not just find that in any other city in the Netherlands. In this article, I’m sharing my favorite hotspots in Maastricht with you!
1. Restaurant Bijzonder
Just outside the center is Restaurant Bijzonder, a hip place where you can have breakfast, lunch and dinner. Are you on the healthy tour? Then you are in the right place, because at Bijzonder they work with honest and pure products. The products they use come from local farmers and traders. The dishes mainly consist of many fresh vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts. Vegan or vegan? Here you can go! The atmosphere at Bijzonder is cozy and the food is very tasty! Recommended!

2. Hotel Haas on the Vrijthof
A day in Maastricht is fun, but it’s even more fun to make a weekend of it! Luxury guesthouse Haas on the Vrijthof in Maastricht is definitely a must to stay. It is located right on the Vrijthof, what a beautiful location! Upon arrival you will be told all the ins and outs of the city and you will also receive a nice guide from Maastricht. There are three rooms and three suites. The first ones are perfect for a city trip, but if you want to stay a little longer, a suite is ideal. All rooms are stylishly furnished with Scandinavian designs and refreshing and classic touches.
We were allowed to stay the night in the Superior Suite of Haas on the Vrijthof, what a wonderful stay! You really have the feeling of living in the city like a real local. The Superior Suite has a large living room, a spacious kitchen with dining table and a patio. You get the key to the hotel, so when you walk back in the evening, you feel like a resident of Maastricht. The location of this luxury guesthouse is great; you look out on the Sint-Janskerk, which is nice to wake up to! In the morning our breakfast was served in the kitchen, but when the weather is nice it is wonderful to have breakfast on the patio. What a luxury, in the middle of the city!

3. Furniture & Café
It is wonderful to drink a cup of coffee on the terrace in Maastricht (with Limburg pie of course!), but if you want to make the most of your time and explore the city while drinking a cup of coffee? That is also possible! At Furniture & Café you can enjoy a coffee or tea on the go, but it is also an interior store at the same time. You can buy chairs and tables, but also retro bicycles, cool lighting and bar stools.

4. Stadscafe Lure
When you are in Maastricht, you can of course eat at a tasty Italian, but it is even more fun to eat a real Mestreech dish: zoervleis. And I can assure you, at Stadscafe Lure you can eat delicious zoervleis. In the summer it is wonderful to sit on the terrace (it looks like you are in France!), but it is also very cozy inside. Small is beautiful! Here you can have a nice lunch, have a drink and have a nice bite to eat in the evening. You also have an extensive beer list here, so you can also go here for a specialty beer.

5. City Park and City Wall
In Maastricht you can shop very well, but it is also very nice to just stroll through the city and be surprised by all the small streets and cozy corners. If you’re having so much fun strolling through Maastricht, take a stroll through the city park! Through the city park you can take a walk on the city wall.
6. Dominican Church
I am a huge lover of books and a visit to the most beautiful bookshop in the Netherlands cannot be missed: the Dominicanen bookshop in the Dominicanenkerk. Lovely to browse through the books and in between to drink a cup of coffee at Coffee Lovers in the back of the church.
Also nice and worth a visit in Maastricht:
