Cruise ships, they have a rather dusty image. When you think of a cruise ship, you probably think of people over sixty, dull animation teams, boring days at sea and a journey that is far too expensive. But cruising can be a lot of fun. You sail at night and during the day you discover a new city. It’s holidaying and globetrotting at the same time. With these tips, your cruise ship tour will be a success.
1. Eat a little later than usual
On most cruise ships, everyone has lunch and dinner around the same time. This can sometimes lead to high crowds, especially in the restaurants with a buffet. There’s a good chance that you don’t feel like doing that at all during your vacation. In that case, do not eat at the same time as the other travelers and dine a little later than usual. Then it is quiet in the restaurant and the service is not so rushed.
2. Try to re-book your trips outside the cruise line
If you book a day trip through the cruise line, this can mean that you go out with a whole group at the same time. Can you see it? Riding a camel through the desert with two hundred men? Or all together to the same museum? Rather not. So try to arrange your trips yourself. Then you can quietly enjoy the area without being rushed by the other travelers.
3. Build a party
Most cruise ships have a disco or a trendy bar on board. Look it up if you feel like a party. Of course you can also go to the biggest party of the evening, but before you know it you’ll be on stage with the animation team, wearing a wig and a boa.
4. Buy a pass for the private sunbathing deck
It can be quite busy on a cruise ship, especially if it is fully booked. If you then have to spend a day at sea and no one is allowed to get off the ship, everyone will lie down at the pool. That can be quite cozy of course, but usually it looks more like an anthill. So if you want to seclude yourself for a day and sunbathe in peace, buy an access pass for the private sunbathing deck.
5. Book a room with a balcony
If you take an inside cabin you hardly notice that you are sailing. And that’s exactly why you went on a cruise! Moreover, it is always nice to get a breath of fresh air when you feel like it or to watch the sunset from bed. A room with a balcony is therefore an absolute must.
6. Discover the ship
Take plenty of time to discover the boat. It often has much more to offer than you think. Theaters, movie theaters, swimming pools, a spa, tennis courts, soccer fields and a miniature golf course, you name it. It would be a shame if you miss that.
7. Go eat somewhere else
Food at a number of restaurants is included in most bookings. Those restaurants are continuously full, especially during dinner. So do you fancy a romantic dinner with your lover? Or do you just fancy a different menu? Then go eat at one of the other, more exclusive restaurants.
8. Holy Ship
Cruise company MSC is doing everything it can to be attractive to young people and to shake off the dusty image. This was especially successful on the ship MSC Divina. This ship has been cleared for a fantastic dance journey: Holy Ship. Sail through the Bahamas with the hottest DJs and artists on board. Robin Schultz, Kaskade, DJ Snake… they all pass by. And don’t forget all the glitz and glamor on board. An indoor swimming pool, infinity pool, a sports bar with a bowling alley, beautiful restaurants and bars with expansive sea views… Holy Ship!
