Fieberbrunn has long ceased to be a real insider tip on the border of Tyrol and the Salzburgerland. Dutch families in particular know how to find their way to Fieberbrunn. It is a small but elongated village at 800 meters with a nice ski area in the backyard. Not a bustling place but a friendly village where families feel completely at home. Since this winter season, the ski area of Fieberbrunn (with about 35 km of slopes) has been connected to the Skicircus, the ski area known for the villages of Saalbach and Hinterglemm. The new TirolS gondola lift was built for this purpose and takes you to the Reiterkogel in Saalbach in a few minutes. For Fieberbrunn this connection is a huge asset because it makes it a lot more interesting for winter sports enthusiasts who love a friendly and relaxed place to spend the winter sports holiday here. The complete Skicircus now has 270 kilometers of slopes on offer for you. During my stay in Saalbach for Dutchweekend I went on a day trip to Fieberbrunn together with Annemerel and guide Andi!
After some miscommunication we find Andi at the top of the Reiterkogel in Saalbach. He has lived in Fieberbrunn all his life, has seen a lot of the world but still keeps coming back to his safe haven. Love is deep because he is still impressed when he sees the Wildseeloder with a blue sky behind it.
Snow sure
One of the reasons Andi loves ‘his own territory’ is the snow. Fieberbrunn is located in the Pillerseetal and according to experts, this is where the most snow falls in all of Tyrol every year. It is therefore also a place where freeriders like to come, because there are plenty of places to enjoy your off-piste.
It is already the end of March when we start exploring Fieberbrunn and the slopes are still in great shape. The new descent, which has been created since the connection with the Skicircus, is a red descent and it is immediately one of the nicest in the whole area. And the descents that you can do when you take the Reckmoos or Reckmoos Süd are those nice wide, red descents. Even if you don’t need that long to be able to do all the slopes, because of the vastness of the area you definitely don’t have the idea that you always end up at the same point. And along the way, of course, nice huts beckon here and there (such as the TeeHütte for example)!
3 tips for playing winter sports in Fieberbrunn
If you are going on winter sports in Fieberbrunn, then I have three nice tips for you on the slopes: for eating and drinking, but also as a change from the skiing fun.
- Do you feel like eating really good lunch, then go to the Wildalpgatterl. Everything you eat here is prepared with great care and love: ingredients are all organic, and the kitchen does not have a deep-fat fryer. Everything you eat is fresh and full of flavour. And you can use such a tasty meal after a morning of skiing!
- You don’t want to miss a ride on Timok’s Alpine Coaster, fun for all ages. This ‘roller coaster’ takes you on a downhill ride. You can board alone or in pairs. Such a ride takes about 5 minutes and you do not have to walk back up yourself, that is automatic.
- In the evening you can have a romantic dinner for two in the Pauli Alm, a tiny hut where up to 14 people can sit and where you can have a lovely cozy dinner.
For those staying in Saalbach or Hinterglemm, Fieberbrunn is a bonus. It makes the ski area a bit bigger and you have a wonderful terrain to enjoy yourself for an extra day. And that also applies to those who stay in Fieberbrunn itself, the ski area has become a lot bigger and more attractive in one fell swoop. In all possible respects, this new connection is a real asset!
