Jordan Pass is really a must for a trip to Jordan. Normally we are not at all enthusiastic for this kind of tourist passes. Usually this is mainly a way to make money from tourists. But why is Jordan Pass different?

The Jordan Pass is worth buying.

The Jordan Pass costs 70 to 80 Jordanian Dinars

There are three types of passes with prices ranging from 70 Jordanian Dinars (JD) to 80 JD. The three passes differ in only one respect: the number of days you want to spend in beautiful Petra.

  • 70 JD for a one-day pass to Petra.
  • 75 JD for a pass with 2 days entry to Petra
  • 80 JD for a pass with 3 days access to Petra

That sounds like quite an investment, but let me do the math for you.

For just the entrance to Petra, without a Jordan Pass you already pay 50 (one day), 55 (2 days) or 60 JD (3 days). You can find the entrance fees on this site. The second big advantage of the Jordan Pass is in your visa. If you purchased your pass before arriving in Jordan, your visa fee of 40 JD is waived.

We bought a Jordan Pass with access to Petra for 2 days and paid 75 JD each. A separate ticket to Petra would have cost us 55 JD and our visa 40 JD, saving us 20 JD!

So, with just a visit to Petra and your visa, the cost of your Jordan Pass is already paid for.

Petra, the lost city of Jordan

Our favorite sightseeing places in Jordan Pass

Besides Petra, the Jordan Pass gives you access to more than 40 other sights in Jordan. You can find them all on the official site. These were our favorites!

  • Petra, Jordan’s biggest highlight (50 to 60 JD).
  • The impressive ruins of the Roman city of Jerash in northern Jordan (10 JD).
  • Access to the desert castles of Shobak, Karak and Ajun (1, 3 and 2 JD).
  • Amman’s ancient citadel with stunning views of the city (3 JD).
  • The Roman theater in Amman, in the middle of the city and still in use (2 JD).
  • Access to the desert of Wadi Rum in the south to spend the night in a tented camp (5 JD).

An extra advantage: with the Jordan Pass you often don’t have to stand in line, but can go straight to ticket control.

The terms and conditions of Jordan Pass

Before you buy the Jordan Pass, read the terms and conditions on the official Jordan Pass website. Check the FAQ carefully. The two most important conditions relate to the visa benefit of 40 JD.

You only get the visa benefit, if you have the pass upon arrival in the country. If you only buy the pass during your trip, you cannot claim back the 40 JD for your visa. So make sure you buy the pass before your trip and bring it with you printed out.

The other condition is that the visa benefit only applies, if you stay at least 3 nights in Jordan. Why? Because the pass will only be used by tourists who actually travel through Jordan. Petra is often visited as a day trip from neighboring Israel.
