The Greek island of Kefalonia is bursting with beautiful beaches. On Kefalonia you will find many impressive beaches with azure blue water, a white sandy beach and a hinterland with limestone rocks and lots of greenery. I toured the island for a week and visited the most beautiful places. Now I would like to share with you the most beautiful beaches of Kefalonia.
The most beautiful beaches of Kefalonia on the map
The most beautiful beaches of Kefalonia are scattered all over the island. With a rental car, all the beaches that I share are easy to visit. Of course it depends on where you stay how long it takes you to get there.
The map below shows where the beaches in this article are located.
#1 Myrtos
The most photographed beach of Kefalonia is Myrtos beach. This beach is nestled between two rocks, making it a beautiful, hidden cove where the transparent, azure blue water contrasts sharply with the white sand and limestone cliffs. Especially seen from above, Myrtos is very impressive. It is not for nothing that there is a special stopping point where you can safely park your car to take pictures. To get to Myrtos you follow a road full of hairpin bends down. Personally, I found the beach a little less impressive from below, but nevertheless it is a picture to see. There is a catering facility, there are toilets and you can rent a bed. A great place to spend a day and rightly one of the most beautiful beaches of Kefalonia.
Myrtos beach in Kefalonia#2 Petani
My personal favorite beach on Kefalonia is Peralia Petani, or Petani Beach. This beach is located at the top of Paliki, the peninsula of Kefalonia, and is easy to visit from the holiday town of Lixouri. Also on Petani Beach the water is intensely blue and the beach is white. Keep in mind that these are mainly pebbles, while Myrtos is a sandy beach. On the beach there are only yellow beds with orange umbrellas, something that makes for a beautiful picture. There are two taverns at Petani where you can enjoy a fresh lunch. Tip: on the menu there is an asterisk next to fish that comes from the freezer. Make sure you choose fresh fish. We went for the grilled shrimps and they were truly heavenly.
#3 Gialos
Just below Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia, is a very nice beach. Gialos is a real sandy beach, while most of the beautiful beaches on Kefalonia consist of pebbles. If you don’t like this, then Gialos is the place to be for you. Gialos belongs to the holiday town of Lassi and you can therefore walk here. To me, Gialos felt like a real Greek beach: the many pine trees, the yellow sand and the atmosphere make it a very nice and friendly place.
#4 Platia Ammos
If you drive about half an hour south from Petani, you will arrive at Platias Ammos. At least, then you come across a goat path that you cannot cross by car. Park your car at the path and walk down the last few hundred meters. Once there, you’ll be treated to fantastic views of Ammos Beach, a narrow beach with dramatic high cliffs as a backdrop. You can only reach Ammos via stairs and there are no beds or catering facilities. Because it takes quite a bit of effort to get to Ammos, this is truly an undiscovered gem. Unfortunately, the sky closed completely when we arrived at Ammos, but be sure to google this beautiful beach for some more sunny pictures.
#5 Fteri
At the very north, at the point of connection of the peninsula, is Fteri Beach. Fteri is also not very easy to reach as there is no good paved road leading to it. You can drive a reasonable distance by car, but the last 2 to 3 kilometers you have to walk. So make sure you wear decent shoes and bring enough water if you want to visit Fteri. There is nothing on the beach in terms of catering or sun beds, so that is also something you have to take into account. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to visit Fteri myself, but the video below gives you a very good idea of what to expect.
#6 Antisamos
In addition to Paralia Petani, I also found Antisamos a very nice and beautiful beach on Kefalonia. Antisamos is located on the east coast of the island and is easy to reach by car. Unlike many other beaches, there is a very large parking lot so that you can park your car even in high season. There is a catering business where they have both Greek and international dishes on the menu. The prices are a bit higher, but on the other hand you can use the (wonderful!) beds on the beach for free. Seems like a great deal, right? Because the beach is fully equipped, Antisamos is really a place where you can easily spend a day.
#7 Skala
Perhaps not the most beautiful beach on Kefalonia, but one of the most relaxed is Skala. Skala is a relatively busy seaside resort in the south of the island and there are several fine beaches. There are cots in most places that you can use for a fee. In addition, there are catering establishments everywhere, so you do not have to bring your own food or drink. In addition to the beaches of Skala itself, it is also very nice to rent a boat and explore the small bays further along the coast.
#8 Xi
One of the most special beaches on Kefalonia is Xi Beach. This beach is located on the peninsula, about seven kilometers from Lixouri. What makes Xi so special is the fact that the sand is colored red and you can smear yourself with clay here. This seems to be very good for your skin. Xi is therefore a kind of natural spa that you do not want to miss if you stay in Lixouri. You can get there by rental car or by boat from Lixouri.
#9 Koutsoupia
When you think of a small, secluded beach, chances are the beach you see in front of you resembles Koutsoupia. This beach is located on the east coast of Kefalonia and can only be reached by boat. We rented a small motorboat in Skala and got the tip to moor in Koutsoupia. There would be an old Greek souvlaki here barbecuing on the beach. Of course we were very curious about this and indeed, on Koutsoupia there is a small wooden booth from where an older man sells Greek salad, souvlaki and sandwiches. So charming. Highly recommended if you stay in this part of Kefalonia. The beach can be reached by motor boat from Skala and Sami.
#10 Fiskardo
In the far north of Kefalonia lies the picturesque town of Fiskardo. At about a 1.5 kilometer walk from Fiskardo is Foki Beach, an equally picturesque beach. Foki is located in a super green bay and is a popular place for boats to moor. There are no facilities so don’t forget to bring at least something to drink yourself. Combine Foki with a visit to Fiskardo and you have a full-day programme. Boat trips to Fiskardo, including a stop at Foki Beach, can also be booked from the larger tourist towns.
They were, the 10 most beautiful beaches in Kefalonia! The beaches of Kefalonia offer a delightful experience for travelers, combining natural beauty, relaxation, and the opportunity to create unforgettable memories in one of Greece’s most picturesque destinations. I thought it was a real party to tour around this island and discover new beautiful beaches again and again.
