An enchanting night in Namibia

The number of places on earth where the influence of humans cannot be seen is becoming smaller and smaller. Places where the stars are the only form of illumination, and where no artificial light can be found, are scarce. But to really get a good look at the starry sky and enjoy the night as nature designed it, you need a place where the so-called light pollution is minimal. The makers of this video ‘found’ such an untouched place and for that they traveled to the south of Africa, to Namibia. The result is a stunning 4 minute timelapse. Enjoy a moment…

Namibia

Most of this video was shot in Namibia (and a bit in Botswana) in the Kalahari, an area of desert, savanna and steppe. Namibia is known as one of the least ‘light-polluted’ countries in the world, making it one of the best travel destinations for astronomers and photographers of the stars. In some of Namibia’s national parks, light pollution has been reduced to zero and the only light you see at night is what the stars give you.

The video turned out incredibly beautiful. So beautiful that I feel like filling my backpack, taking a tent and storing it somewhere in Namibia and then looking at the stars all night…
