Do you want to go on safari in Tanzania? Then you are in the right place here, because whichever safari you choose, it will be an unforgettable experience. There are more than 20 nature parks in Tanzania that are all equally beautiful, and where you will definitely spot all the wild animals you want to see. Many travelers go for a safari in the famous Serengeti Game Reserve, where you go after the migration of the animals. In Mikumi National Park it is different, here you travel through the natural habitat of the animals.
Wildlife in Mikumi National Park
A lot of different wild animals live in Mikumi: giraffes, elephants, baboons, impalas, zebras, crocodiles, hippos, lions and leopards: they are all there. However, spotting the Big 5 will not work here, because you will not spot the rhinoceros here.
Set aside about three days for a safari in Mikumi National Park. You wake up to the sound of elephants and thus experience the real Africa up close. And this is what you will see in those three days!
Useful to know about Mikumi
Mikumi National Park is located near Morogoro in Tanzania. The park was opened in the 1960s and has been accessible to tourists ever since. It is a large safari park, no less than 3,230 square kilometers. Mikumi is the third largest park in Tanzania in terms of size.
A road runs through the park, which serves as a special dividing line. The nature on both sides is different. The north of Mikumi National Park is fairly flat, while the south has considerable height differences and is also rocky. The link with the Serengeti is then quickly established. Hence, Mikumi is also nicknamed ‘little Serengeti’. The park is also easy to reach. If you depart from Dar es Salaam, it is about a four-hour drive. Although such a highway in a nature park does not sound pleasant, you do not have to notice it during a safari.
From March to June it is rainy season in Mikumi. Useful to know if you want to plan your safari. That is the most beautiful season for a safari in Tanzania, because then nature is at its best!
Wildlife that you can see here include zebras, elephants, lions, wildebeest, hippos and baboons. Add to that hundreds of bird species, and you have one of the most beautiful African safari parks! If you are fond of birds, it is good to know that you can also book a bird safari here; the guides will then go in search of the most beautiful birds that live in Mikumi with you.
